Thinking About Dying

“I don’t fear death so much as I fear its prologues: loneliness, decrepitude, pain, debilitation, depression, senility. After a few years of those, I imagine death presents like a holiday at the beach.”
~ Mary Roach

In the midst of life there is death. We all know this but we hate to think about dying. We resist not only the thought of dying but the actual act of dying to the fullest. Our goal? To live as long as possible – of course! Who wouldn’t want to have children, see said children have their own children, contribute to mankind, have a purpose bigger than ourselves or be the most awesome person in the life of another? Every.Last.One.Of.Us.

Are you saying yes when you should be saying no? Let’s change the script!

“The big moments in your life are made up by the little decisions you make.” ~ Lisa Nichols

So what are you telling yourself? What are you telling others? These questions stopped me in my tracks and even reminded me somehow of an admonition from my granny to never put negative words out into the environment because  our words were our truth.  Maybe if she had wrapped up her advice as nicely as Lisa Nichols does in this powerful message shared here, I may have taken her more seriously.

Today I definitely stand guilty as accused because now I am more aware that people really do believe whatever I say as my truth, even when in reality the truth may be very different. For example, they ask me if I am doing fine and I say yes. They ask me to volunteer for a project and I say yes. They ask me to sacrifice my standards and I say yes. They ask me if I’m OK with what they are saying or doing and I say yes.

How many yeses over a period of time add up and add up until an individual becomes overwhelmed and depressed? What would happen if said individual was brave and honest enough to answer NO?

Lisa’s story is powerful. As you listen ask yourself the questions I asked me: what are you really saying and is it your truth? As you try to answer always remember that it’s never too late to re-calibrate, re-set, re-group and/or re-generate … never!

Can you relate? Do you know someone guilty of always saying yes? Just a few additional questions to think about; share your answers with us. In the meantime you can also learn more about Lisa Nichols.

Happy World Kindness Day

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:24-25 (NIV)

Today is World Kindness Day! How awesome is that?

And did you know the World Kindness Movement started World Kindness Day in 1998 or that its observation has since spread to 28 countries? No? Well, neither did I but you can go here to learn more.

In a nutshell then, our focus today is simple: we have to be kinder and more considerate of others, we have to show love and genuine compassion for our fellow humans, and most of all we have to remember that it does not cost a lot of money if any at all to simply be … kind; just ask Glen Campbell and then in kindness, share this post 🙂
