“Indeed, sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him”

Sons (and daughters) are a heritage from the Lord

“Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5 (NIV)

As my heritage and reward from the Lord, my son Nathan is much taller than I am, ‘mouthier’ than I am, and braver than I am. He is loving and kind though opinionated and stubborn. He stands up for those less fortunate as I do and tries to understand the ‘other point of view’ even when it’s a struggle.  More importantly and above all, he is blessed and touched by God, and for this I am thankful.

My son wasn’t really born in my ‘youth’. I was already 32 years old and most of my friends’ children were at least 10 years old if not older. Continue reading

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

I’ve posted this before but still acknowledge that some days it’s easy to complain and hump and grump; like, a lot. Those are the days when:

I wish things were different …

I wish people were different …

I wish I was different. … Continue reading

Dear Son, here’s how I know I’m not a good mom

Dear Son

I know you have strong opinions of how life should and should not be and I know you can never understand why I say the things I say. So this letter is just to confirm:

  1. I am not a good mom when I tell you to clean your room.
  2. I am not a good mom when I tell you no, you can’t go to the party.
  3. I am not a good mom when I tell you to stop playing that video game and start studying – now.
  4. I am not a good mom when I tell you to eat your vegetables.
  5. I am not a good mom when I tell you to stop fridge gazing and just take what you want without wasting electricity.
  6. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to eat everything in sight just because it’s there.
  7. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to be rude when sharing your opinions.
  8. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to spend all of your money in one go.
  9. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to forget others who are less fortunate than you are.
  10. I am not a good mom when I tell you I’m not being hard on you, I’m just being your mom.

BUT deep down in your heart you know I’m a good mom because one day you will have your own children, and you will look back on this post and smile, because all of the reasons I’ve noted above (and the ones I haven’t) will become yours – and you will be a GOOD dad.

Love you forever and always

Mom

 XOXOXO
