How does the mind of a procrastinator work?

I have been checking out a few TED Talks lately and yes, they mostly cover serious topics but some are quite funny too.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a few talks that I love most, so to start the ball rolling let’s take an important insider look at how the mind of a procrastinator really works (presented by Tim Urban) … because that pretty much covers most of us at one time or another 🙂

 

Let’s start a conversation:

Dear Friends

It’s important to remember the value of living in the now. Yesterday can’t be changed and no matter how much we long for tomorrow we can’t do anything there until tomorrow actually comes. So why not just live in the now, in the today, in this very moment of moments? What other choice do we have anyway?

Today, we are going to grab hold of life and live it to the fullest. We are going to let people know how much they mean to us. We are going to do our jobs to the best of our ability. We are going to support our co-workers, friends, family, bosses and pastors. We are going to give to the homeless and then give some more.  We are going to praise God, pray to God and be a witness to God. Because today is all we have and sometimes this opportunity too, can be taken away from us in the blink of an eye. Just a little something to think about not only today but for always.

What are you thankful for today? How will you make the most of each moment? Do you regret not enjoying other moments in your past? Is there some point of your life you would have lived differently or to the max?

Today is the last day of June. It is also the only time we will see Friday June 30, 2017 but even though the second half of the year will start from tomorrow, let’s not be disappointed or depressed if we are not as far along as originally planned for this time. Remember, you are enough! And by extension it is never, and I repeat never, ever too late to work on yourself … because even Oprah thinks this is a good idea 🙂

And you thought you had one up on this Granny … definitely not!

You get a news feed from www.bbcnews.com on your instagram account with the following headline:

Hairdryer gran Jean Brooks is ‘national hero’ say fans

You wonder how many hairstyles Jean could be doing every day to make her a national hero. Sounds as though she must be something special so you click on the link to see this introduction:

“A hairdryer-wielding grandmother who became an internet sensation says schoolchildren in her area now consider her a “national hero. Jean Brooks uses the hairdryer as a pretend speed gun outside her home in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.”

Of course you want to read more! I also wanted to see how well this worked because it was just so far fetched.  The report went on to say this:

“A video of her has been viewed more than 33 million times on the BBC Radio Nottingham Facebook page.  Since her new-found fame, she said she is asked for selfies and fans visit her home.”

Click on the link above to see the hilarious video but guess what? Success was achieved.  It was a serious situation that called for desperate measures and I could totally relate to this as something possibly affecting many of us in other parts of the world.  Here on my little rock for sure, we have stunt bike riders performing wheelies in the middle of thick bumper-to-bumper traffic and in neighborhoods every single day but especially on weekends aka super dangerous but the riders just do not care.

Jean’s streets are much safer for residents now, including young vulnerable children; she is a great granny and an excellent role model. She did what she had to do to restore order, stability and safety from out of the chaos because as they say, ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and this invention was most definitely necessary.

Super Healthy Veggie Casserole

This is one of the easiest dishes to prepare and involves a minimum of three vegetables for starters: squash, onions and chives (or green onions). You can use as much or as little of any veggies as  you want; it’s all about flavour and colour, so the sky is the limit. I use anything that is in season as long as I like it but try to go easy on the spinach (can sometimes turn the red onion into a strange colour if you use too much).

This recipe yields enough to last five days or an entire work week … well, that depends on how fast or slow you consume these veggies but let’s get started.

Ingredients:

1 medium sized Squash
2 large Red Onions (or normal onions – your call)
8 stalks of Chives
10 medium-sized Okras (optional)
Few leaves of Spinach (optional)
2 Large Carrots (optional)
4 English potatoes (optional)
1 Cucumber (optional)

Parsley Flakes
Salt
White & Black Pepper
Ginger (powdered or fresh)
Garlic Salt

Olive Oil Pam Spray

 

 

 

Method:

  1. Wash and thinly slice the squash, potatoes, and cucumbers; do not peel.
  2. Place in a large bowl.
  3. Wash, thinly slice and add the remaining vegetables.
  4. Sprinkle dashes of salt, white and black pepper, powdered ginger and garlic salt to taste
  5. Mix thoroughly
  6. Spray the bottom of a large glass baking dish with Olive Oil
  7. Add your veggies, and after sprinkling with 2 – 3 tablespoons of Coconut Oil cover the dish with foil
  8. Bake for approximately 30 minutes at 350 degrees Celsius
  9. Let cool and serve 🙂
  10. So yummy!

Preparation Time:

15 – 20 minutes or as long as it takes you to slice and dice your veggies, so the time really is dependent on your quantities.  Here’s a hint though: prepare more than you need and then freeze all that is left over for your next casserole dish.
