“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.” ~ Ben Okri

I was humbled to be interviewed by Janice Sutherland, as part of her Phenomenal Woman Podcast project. I honestly do not consider myself phenomenal in any way. I’m just an ordinary girl with ordinary thoughts trying to make it through an ordinary life … but isn’t that most of us? We don’t have to be abused, homeless or poor to be trying to get by. We don’t have to be mentally ill or over weight or old to be trying to make our lives better. We can have regrets but still get by – yes? Of course yes! We just have to be the most authentic version of ourselves.

Most days recently I am feeling all of my 53 years. I am tired a lot. My body exercises under duress, my brain refuses to retain the simplest data and I would rather produce widgets instead of managing egos or coraling emotions or both. I have had to undergo several ‘routine’ expensive tests while trying to keep up with more than my fair share of millennials. People, the struggle is real.

This informal interview was therefore an eye-opener, a look into who I thought I was vs. who I thought I could be vs. who I actually turned out to be. It was my past, present and future all blended into the person I am today. Not that bad really, because it could have been a whole lot worse!

So welcome to the era of the phenomenal woman. We are powerful. We are humble. We are able to work magic with nothing. We stand for what is right and strongly oppose what is wrong. We are life.

What kind of phenomenal woman do you think you are? How has your past shaped you into the woman you are today? Do you know a phenomenal woman? What is she like? Share your story; leave us a comment.
