Transient Emotion, Transient Meal

“I think character is permanent, and issues are transient.” ~ James Stockdale

I ordered a cup of soup from my favourite restaurant but could not commit to a pick up time. This was more the norm than the exception and I knew even as I hung up the line that no matter how hard I tried, I would probably arrive later rather than sooner.

But it’s great when your chef knows you and knows you well. They made sure my anxiety in being late would be transient by penning a note on my soup cup, which in turn elicited a big smile from me when I finally arrived.  No-one (and they meant no-one) was touching that soup!

Well as you can see, the soup was really really really good … but transient too, because one minute it was there and in a flash it was gone 🙂
