“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.
The thought for this week is simple: I don’t know but I know God knows. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Well that’s until you are smack-dab in the middle of a life crisis. When you are going through stuff (and I mean serious stuff), you don’t know top from bottom. Sometimes you are so confused you don’t know anything at all. I have picked up the phone and dialed someone’s number only to forget completely who I was calling. I forget people’s names, forget appointments, forget where I put things aka some days I am permanently confused. Thankfully I am not alone; just ask anyone going through menopause and they will agree with what I’ve described (because I am speaking to you from very personal experience).
There are times when God can seem very far away and you wonder if He is even aware of what’s going on with you all the way down here on earth. Rest assured that He is very much ‘in the know’ … especially when you don’t know. Notice especially what we are told here in Ezekiel: God can bring down a tall tree and make a short one tall; He can dry up a green tree and make a dry one flourish. If you doubt this, then look out! God has spoken! He knows He can and will do whatever needs to be done on our behalf; do I hear an ‘amen’?
So here’s the plan. Whenever you forget or feel confused or don’t know anything about anything, pause … breathe … and let go. You don’t need to know because your God knows – and He is more than able.
