This IS your season!

In season living

Mangoes soon to be in season judging from the blossoms covering this tree 🙂

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers.”
Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)

Good News vs. Bad News

I have good news … and I have not-so-good news. The good news is that this is your season! It doesn’t matter how hard life may be for you right now or what valley you’re in: God will see you through to the other side, where He will be with you in an abundant never-before-seen harvest. The not-so-good news is that this very time in your life right now IS your season. Does that make sense? Let me try to explain.

What’s a “season”?

The word ‘season’ usually refers to a period of time. We speak of spring, summer, autumn or winter but ‘season’ can also mean a time during which a certain activity is done e.g. planting, fertilizing, pruning, harvesting or storing.   Here in the Caribbean, when we talk about a season, the word encompasses things such as cricket, football, competitive inter-school sports, mangoes and other fruit, Kadooment/Carnivals, Lent, Easter and Christmas.  Of course we love our language and are known to add interesting derivatives like: ‘in season’, ‘seasonal’ and ‘seasoning’ – the latter being herbs and spices added to meats and sauces for extra yummy flavour.

I love this particular ‘season’!

Seasons 101

But I said all of the above to say this: God might be planting you full of little mustard seeds right now. It’s hard when he digs deep holes in your soul and covers you up in dirt, leaving you in the dark. But His plan is to fertilize you as you come to the surface to make you big and strong for the harvest. You may be need to be pruned (or seasoned with some hot peppers) a little along the way too. Those are the times when we may get too big for our branches and God has to trim them a bit to keep our tree looking a certain way as He prepares us for the harvest.

All Seasons are Perfect!

We tend to think of ‘our season’ as the good times in our lives i.e. when the plan comes together and God finally gives us what we have been longing for.  Yet ‘our season’ is really any season spent with God, whether it is a good time or a trying time.  Can you relate?  Do I hear an amen? God tells us all through the Old and New Testaments not to be afraid; He is still telling us that today.  We should not be afraid or let our season overwhelm us because  Our God is a BIG God.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, is beyond or above Him. So while you think on all this, remember: this IS your season and God IS with you in it because it’s HIS season as well!

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10 (NIV)

“The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.”
Deuteronomy 28:12 (NIV)

  1. Reblogged this on Living Life Day by Day and commented:

I remembered this post this week because I have friends who have been laid off from work, divorced after more than a life time of marriage, or trying to recover from the loss of a loved one. I have experienced all of these things and yes, life is really dark when you are lying in the bottom of a pit. Yet the value in the darkness becomes clear when you come out on the surface in brilliant sunlight having survived ‘the season’. Amen!
