Life is for Living Every Day

Sharing this fact: Faith + Family + Friendship + Love + Laughter = Life

Shhhh! It’s a secret …

Is there something about you which must be kept hidden in the darkest dark? Would it ‘kill’ you if anyone found out about your secret? But wait, how can you have a testimony which encourages others if it’s a secret? How does that work? By telepathy? Maybe osmosis … hmmmmm …. not really sure, are we …

But hold on, you are not alone in this thinking. Every single one of us will have challenges and issues on this journey called life, yet we hesitate to divulge our ‘personal business’ with others, pretending to be perfect. Worst yet, we walk around with our heads in the air judging others, while knowing full well that we may not only be in the same sort of situation but in some cases even more compounded.

I was once asked this question by my manager: “Do you honestly believe you are the only person who has been divorced or lost a loved one or been a victim of down-sizing?  Unfortunately, and it’s a fact: you are not the first and you will not be the last.”  Yikes! She had a point but I still didn’t want to admit it or want it spread around that I was a loser. I couldn’t even hold my life together for one day at a time; I was a failure.

It is as a result of this low time in my life, the fact that I am indeed a divorced single parent, have lost my mom and aunt to cancer, and been affected by a lay-off (6 days before my 40th birthday), which made me really relate to the short video clip by The Anime Series team included in this post. It also reinforced what I guess I knew in my heart all along – the best way I can minister to a hurting person is if I come from a position of knowledge/experience so that when I say: “I know how you feel” they are aware that I honestly do know their pain.

I encourage you to take a step back and listen to the words expressed.  Then, consider sharing your story.  Someone is waiting to hear your unique special take on life, told from your personal point of view, so they can in turn be inspired to move on to the next step of the journey.

Something to think about …

  1. That’s part of what keeps me going on my blog. I’m working on that post about moving on with my life and keep thinking I’m really oversharing. But I think it will help someone out there, maybe not now, but at some point. The post I wrote about going back to work full-time when my daughter was little and how angry and bitter I was? It wasn’t overly well received, but I’ve since shared it a gazillion times with young working mothers who are unhappy coming back to work and leaving the baby behind. For being an older generation, I was able to comfort and sympathize with a number of them and really helped them ease back to work and accept this was how life was.

  2. I love this story Nancy and aren’t we brave for showing the world our healed scars, even though recounting how we got them kind of reopens each wound a little? For example, were it not for your insider info about the value of Vitamin D for menopause-ers I wouldn’t have gone out and bought a bottle. So all that to say: we rock! My life is sweeter for having you in it 🙂
