“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
It was raining. Hard. The clothes I had hung on the line a few minutes ago were being drenched. I stood by my window looking out, getting more depressed by the second. So much for ticking the laundry off of my never-ending To Do List. Guess I’d just have to tick it twice after re-washing and re-hanging all those white shirts back on to the line.
As I trudged through the next hour or so cleaning up the kitchen, the rain finally held up and what did I see but the most amazing double rainbow ever. It (or should I say ‘they’) were absolutely beautiful! As I rushed to grab my camera to capture the brilliant colours splashed across the sky, I clearly heard God saying: “So what’s the lesson here Gale? Well, you can’t get rainbows without rain now can you?!!”
I still wasn’t thrilled about having to redo my laundry but I got it: sometimes there was going to be rain all over certain areas of my life. I may miss project deadlines, not make it to the gym, or have to work twice as hard to resolve an unforeseen issue; yet the feeling of achievement after the rain clears up makes for some truly wonderful life rainbows.
It may be hard some days – because life can be harder than hard. But I encourage you to welcome the rain that may come; embrace the thunder and the lightning even. Nothing lasts forever, and after the rain has ended just go out and look for that rainbow. It’s God perfect promise that He will never ever leave us – and that’s a fact.
