“You’ve come a long way baby!”

From left to right: Baby, young adult and present day me

Maybe you are generally on top of the world and everything in your life continuously falls calmly into place, but recently I’ve found myself feeling overwhelmed, ill and generally out of sorts.  Days kept merging into one big blur, I had so many different things going on at once and which all demanded my attention that it was hard to be positive or keep smiling. Then I came across some old photos while looking through and dumping some ancient file folders I couldn’t seem to let go of (OK I admit it: I am a serious serious killer of trees … it’s amazing how much paper one individual can accumulate over a period of years!).

It was fun though to go back in time and I ended up saying to myself: “Self, you’ve come a long way baby! You’ve weathered worse storms in your life before; everything’s going to be fine – even if it’s later rather than sooner!”

So take heart!  It’s easy to be anxious and to worry but much harder to see the positives amidst the negatives.  If you’re dealing with stuff like I am, take a time out, find some old photos and remember: everything’s going to be fine … eventually.  Just as I’ve been able to come a long way so have you; we’ve gotten to this point in our lives and there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t keep moving on to the next point.  Trust me on that one.
