7 Tips for Taking Advantage of Every Day

We hear it time and time again: you only have one life to live.  This is very true.  Thing is, this statement can be qualified to read: I cannot live your life and you cannot live mine (no matter how hard we may want to exchange circumstances with each other).  Yet there is another saying which goes along these lines: you can never truly know about another man’s journey until you have walked in his shoes.

Life today is filled with so many different and sometimes overwhelming challenges it’s a wonder we manage to keep it together from one day to the next!  But how do we make every day just a little bit more meaningful?  Do we really need such a long extended list of resolutions to keep us on track month by month?

The answer is no.  Seriously.  Because what might be needed instead is a greater effort to:

  1. Live in the present moment
  2. Not wish for a different tomorrow – because tomorrows aren’t guaranteed
  3. Be the very best that we can be
  4. Perform an anonymous act of kindness for another human being – regularly
  5. Be grateful for all of the blessings in our life (and there are blessings folks!) e.g. family, friends, job, car, home, 5 senses that work most of the time, laughter, good books, sunshine, golden beaches with blue water – you get the picture
  6. Focus more on the big “M” aka ME – by pampering ourselves from time to time while paying attention to mental as well as physical health
  7. Consciously vow to take every single advantage of every day we wake up under the sun – especially if we live in a beautiful beautiful country like Barbados 🙂

We are assuming of course that all of the above will fall under our main umbrella of spending quality time with God because without Him we are nothing … and that’s a fact.

Do you have a tip of your own?  Well don’t hesitate to share with us as we help each other on the quest to live an awesome year.  Let’s do it!

 Take advantage of every day

  1. I like the tips. My tip: I try not to get out of bed without first acknowledging that I am God’s and that this day, He will be with me in my thoughts and every circumstance.

  2. I would also like to add my two cents.
1 cent. Vincentians normally say “peep in your own bowl!”. This is simply used to mean either of two things – (a). Don’t envy what another person has because besides the fact that you do not know how they got it, you do not know how close they are to losing it or how unhappy/happy it makes them. OR (b.) You need to make changes/get help too, so don’t judge your neighbour!! Change in our environment or status ultimately begins with us as an individual. So reflection on self and how we can do things differently to impact change should be our goal
2 cents. I also am a firm believer of not looking back at yesterday for the purpose of dwelling in self-pity and regret, but instead – ‘Today, think of yesterday to improve tomorrow!!”

  3. My 2 cents are….. This too shall pass, meaning whether good or bad nothing lasts forever. Outside of God and his word everything has an end. The hard times will not last forever. Keep things in perspective. Stay faithful to God and cling to his promises, the storm will pass. Cherish the good times and the times of plenty and continue to keep things in perspective and live in the moment.
