Finding God 's peace in the midst of everyday life

The real difference between “I” and “we”

I and WeSomeone shared this photo with me on Facebook and admittedly it is funny.  But then, when you honestly think about the scenario and put it into perspective, the wife is right because the situation is not going to affect only “him” but more likely ”them”.

We have all heard about the ‘grass being greener on the other side’ but I believe that’s only because the grass was being watered, fertilized and mowed regularly (or if not, it was artificial in the first place).  In the same way, relationships require constant maintenance; the good ones don’t just happen.  Whether it’s a relationship with your partner, employee, co-worker, family, friend, pastor – it doesn’t matter - you’re going to have to work at it and keep working at it.

Some days are going to be better than others and yes it’s hard to roll with the punches, to hang in there when the going gets tough and it’s probably a lot easier to just run for the hills but if you chose the latter then the relationship probably wasn’t worth that much to you anyway now was it?

So I’m proposing we try to remember this for 2013 and beyond:

  1. the result of our actions will usually affect someone else
  2. in this tiny world we are all connected in some way
  3. it only takes one little (inconsiderate, selfish, inhumane, thoughtless, draconian - you get the point) act to break a connection … forever
  4. Life is way too short not to cherish and maintain the relationships we have with those we love most.

Just saying.
